Therapy for Adults & Adolescents | In-Person in Kew East + Telehealth Australia-wide
I’m a Melbourne-based Clinical Psychologist helping adults and adolescents who feel stuck by self-doubt, low self-worth or relational patterns they don’t understand. My approach is attachment-informed and evidence-based (including CBT, ACT and Affect-State Therapy), tailored to you, whether you prefer face-to-face in Kew East or online across Australia.
Therapies and Approaches Used
At SelfWorks Psychology, therapy is evidence-based and tailored to your individual goals and needs. Together, we’ll choose an approach that best fits you and the challenges you’re facing.
-
Affect-State Therapy is an attachment-based, emotion-focused short-term dynamic psychotherapy. It draws on insights from attachment theory and neurobiology to help people understand how early experiences have shaped current emotional patterns. In therapy, we work to bring these patterns into awareness so you can respond differently to situations that previously felt overwhelming or stuck. This process allows for deep, personalised change at a pace that suits each individual.
-
Taking an attachment-based approach means understanding mental health concerns as patterns of relating and behaving that develop through early experiences. These patterns often influence how we see ourselves and connect with others, sometimes without realising it. Therapy offers a space to explore these patterns from an adult perspective, making sense of old dynamics and fostering new ways of relating to yourself and others.
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based approach that focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviour. In CBT, we work together to identify and challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, and to experiment with new ways of responding. This process helps you develop practical skills for managing distress and approaching challenges with greater flexibility and perspective.
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a mindfulness-based approach that helps you respond differently to difficult thoughts and emotions, rather than getting caught up in them. The focus is on building psychological flexibility - learning to act in ways that align with your values, even when life feels uncertain or uncomfortable. Together, we work on developing awareness, compassion, and a sense of direction in daily life.
Common Concerns I Support
Many clients come to therapy feeling stuck in patterns they’ve tried to change on their own. Here are some of the common themes I work with.
Beginning therapy
Taking the first step toward therapy can feel uncertain, especially if you’ve been carrying these patterns for a long time. I offer a free 15-minute introductory call so you can ask questions and get a sense of whether this approach feels right for you.
